Women in Logistics & Transport

Women in Logistics and Transport (WiLAT) was launched in June 2013 to promote our industry to female members and to encourage and support their career development.

WiLAT now has over 3000 members in 28 countries and we’re still growing.

WiLAT Mission

Our mission is to promote the status of women in Logistics and Transport, to bring together those who aid the career development of women, and to provide a support network for women in the sector. We have a vision of being the most sought after organisation for advocacy and empowerment of women in the Logistics and Transport industry.

Our work toward this goal is concentrated into four key areas: Leadership, Mentorship, Entrepreneurship and Empowerment. Within these areas we work to bring change to our industry and the wider economy.

We are also aware of our role in society and our responsibilities not just to women but to the planet and to future generations. We are at the forefront of the change toward a greener, more equal and more socially responsible logistics and transport industry.

we firmly hold the view that diversity and encouraging more female participation in our industry, which is perceived to be male dominated, will do the industry well

(Dr Dorothy Chan, WiLAT Global Chairperson and Global Advisor, June 2019)

WiLAT Membership

WiLAT membership is fully dependent on membership of Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT). Female members of CILT automatically become members of their local group of WilAT. Male members of CILT or anyone interested in WilAT but not yet a member of CILT may become a Friend of WiLAT. For further information please contact the chairperson of your local group or your regional co-ordinator.

WiLAT 10th Anniversary Publication “Spreading Our Wings”

Nearly 10 years after the global launch of WiLAT, we wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate all that this incredible initiative has achieved – and look to the future and all that we still want to do.

Our Chief Editor of this publication Dr Dorothy Chan, Immediate Past WiLAT Global Chairperson, and Deputy Editor Dhashma Karunaratne, WiLAT Global Media Coordinator led the editorial committee to compose this book “Spreading Our Wings”.

Career and Life Formula (CALF Program)

We are delighted to inform you that the Career and Life Formula (CALF) program is now available for WiLAT members globally. Originated from WiLAT Hong Kong, the program has helped young managers of our industry to advance by learning from successful industry leaders and elites. The empirical approach has distinguished the CALF program from any other academic program. It is a unique opportunity for young managers to develop an overall picture of the latest industry trends, and build their social network with other highflyers at the same time.

Endorsed by CILT International, participants will be awarded a CILT International Certification with CPD upon completing the 11 weeks of the online program.

Stars of WiLAT (SoW) – Inauguration & Awards

The Stars of WiLAT (SoW) idea was mooted by Dr Doreen Owusu-Fianko FCILT and was accepted by WSC in 2021. Stars of WiLAT was launched in 2021 with a mission to grow future leaders in our industry and showcase new talent, skills, and expertise to keep the industry growing and moving forward and to develop our succession plan in WiLAT.

With The Chartered Institute of Transport and Logistics (CILT) being the only professional body for professionals in the field of Logistics, Transport and Supply Chain, the leadership of WiLAT launched SoW award in 2021 to showcase the Next Generation Women Leaders making an impactful difference to WiLAT. Out of 22 nominations received, the jury identified 10 stars, based on the contribution and impact they have made to WiLAT Global and the industry in general.

The stars were awarded at the CILT international convention held at Perth, Australia on October 25, 2022.

We wish all our stars a bright future and we are certain that they will take WiLAT to greater heights in the coming years. The SoW Award will be an annual feature that will be announced globally at the CILT International convention.

WiLAT Structure

Our Global Convenor, who sits on the CILT International Management Committee, is responsible for the growth and development of WiLAT internationally and for coordinating our annual global conference. Regional coordinators promote the interests of women in their region and encourage membership. Country groups work with and on behalf of women locally, organising events, providing local support and networking opportunities, and representing women within the local CILT council.

Establishing a WiLAT Group

WiLAT groups are formed within CILT Territorial Organisations and Branches. In areas where CILT is not yet established WiLAT activities will be guided by the regional coordinator.

Please contact your regional coordinator for more information on establishing a local group.
