2009 CILTA T&L Industry Excellence Awards PDF Print E-mail

Industry gathers to celebrate and acknowledge the outstanding efforts and achievements of their colleagues.

On Friday 23rd October the Transport and Logistics Industry gathered to celebrate and acknowledge the outstanding efforts and achievements of their colleagues in the field of Logistics and Transport for Australia.

Newcastle (Northern New South Wales Section) was the host for the evening award which was a sell out. Over thirty different businesses and individuals from across Australia went before the judging panel to determine the 2009 National Excellence Awards in six different categories.

The 2009 CILTA Transport and Logistics Industry Excellence Award winners were:

Excellence in Safety Award
Leighton Contractors, Infrastructure Services (QLD)
BlueScope Steel (NNSW) “No Dogs” Project - received a High Commendation
Department of Transport and Main Roads (QLD) – Road Safety – received a High Commendation


Excellence in People Development Award
The Royal Australian Navy Supply Community (ACT)

Excellence in Technology Application/Innovation Award
Transperth – WA Public Transport Authority’s Metropolitan Public Transport System – Implementation of “Smart Rider” (WA)
Port Waratah Coal Service Limited (NNSW) – received a High Commendation

Community Service Recognitions
CSIRO Transport Flagship Team – Fuel for Thought Report to Australian Industry (NNSW)
NSW Meals-on-Wheels Association (NSW)

Excellence in Customer Service Award
Each of the following was jointly presented the Excellence in Customer Service Award and received their independent assessor’s report.

Marie Borg of Newcastle Port Corporation received a Special Commendation for her especial service to customers

Young Achiever Award
David Brown of Newcastle Port Corporation’s - Cruise Hunter Coordinator

David Brown in receiving the award was celebrated as an outstanding example of a young person who has taken up the challenges put to him and has succeeded admirably in his unique coordination role with the Newcastle Port Corporation, cruise ship operators and the tourist industry.

Len Harper, former Executive Director of CILTA attended the Awards in his new capacity of International President of CILT. Len is only the second Australian to have been bestowed this international honour in 83 years.

In 2010 the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Australia (CILTA) will be celebrating its 75th year of representation in Australia and Sydney will be host to the 2010 National Awards. In 2011, there will be an International CILT Conference which Australia has won the right to host and this also will be held in Sydney. This conference will comprise of delegates assembling from over 30 countries around the world.
